Mom and Apple Pie - hard to beat that combination. With Midshipman Fogarty celebrating his birthday with an apple pie from his mom via the Great Neck bakery, Sweet Temptations, what seemed like the entire Regiment celebrated Thursday at Cookie Cafe. Thanks to the efforts of Mid-Atlantic mom Sharon Russo and several of her parent association members, the Mids had an amazing array of home baked goodness. When these moms kept coming in the door with their cookies, at first it appeared that we would not be able to use all their baked goods. Fast forward to 5 p.m. when only a few trays of left-overs were placed in the Land Hall refrigerator for those not able to get to CC. Thirteen gallons of milk disappeared before the day ended. Next week we will get 14 gallons!

The pictures from October 1st's Cookie Cafe tell the tale. Almost to a Mid, there were smiles galore. While we didn't take a head count yesterday, it was obvious that there were more visitors than the week before when we had 600+, as evidenced by the line of students extending the length of Land Hall and out the door. We have heard that this class of plebes is among the brightest ever admitted to Kings Point, but there's no denying that they all get "A's" in cookie eating.

Thank you to CC founder Carol Guest who knew instinctively that many of the Mids, especially the plebes, need hugs. We are following your example with grateful and bashful looks from the Mids.

To those parents who wish they could be with us in person at Cookie Cafe, your support through donations that get used for fruit, and now some yogurt can't be understated. Yesterday we served apples, bananas, grapes, watermelon, strawberries, and oranges, all consumed with gusto by the Regiment. Our only caveat to the students is take what fruit they can eat at Land Hall so as to leave enough for those coming in the afternoon after a full day of classes. We had a Mid come at 5:10 p.m as we were closing up and he was very happy to see 2 remaining bananas and some cookies. While we don't always have the same variety of fruit, we moms try to pick those items which look good at Costco and BJ's. Sometimes requests for certain items, like strawberries, can't be fulfilled because those items look too sad in the stores, but we try to do our best.
