GALA HOLIDAY PARTY!!!

Visions of sugarplums didn't need to dance in the heads of the Midshipmen as Cookie Cafe provided the real deal. The Regiment arrived at Land Hall to the sound of holiday and Christmas music and the smell of warm cranberry spiced cider made by mom Lisa Pino, (Nicholas '14). The sponsoring parent association, Washington, also sent something that should be declared illegal - Kringle Cakes. After spending a few minutes in the oven these cakes oozed almond filling and cinnamon, permeating the room with a delectable aroma and prompting the question, "What smells so good?" Thank you Washington, although anyone's diet that day went out the window since there was no willpower in sight.
Cookie Cafe provided gingerbread house kits for the Mids to test their creative and artistic abilities. Most students stuck to the idea of a house, but one innovative group rearranged the gingerbread into a RoRo ship, totally apropos for Kings Point. Some of us moms think that maybe we have been volunteering at KP at little too long since we actually recognized the piece as a RoRo! How cute is that candy cane anchor...
Several staff members also bring their children to Cookie Cafe and we love including them. Some of the children are too little to see the spread of cookies up on the bar and need a boost to survey the goodies. We also see members of the maintenance staff, faculty, secretaries, company officers and even the Coasties who are posted at the Coast Guard station located on the campus. No one walks in without a smile and the Regiments has frequently told us how Thursdays are the happiest day of the week at Kings Point. Thank you parents!
Thursday, December 11 is the day when the entire Regiment is treated to a sumptuous holiday dinner provided by the New York Parents Association. Faced with feeding approximately 700 very hungry Midshipmen, the NY Parents make a Herculean effort to host the Regiment to the most amazing dinner including sushi, huge hero sandwiches, turkeys, hams, pulled pork, Chinese food, pizzas, Mexican food, chicken cutlet parmesan and anything else one can imagine. After dinner the desserts would make a pastry chef envious with all the wonderful cakes, cookies and pies that are arrayed in Delano. There is no limit to how often the students can return to the buffet table and many a Mid leaves groaning after all the food they have consumed. In addition, each Mid gets a present from the NY parents. Thank you to the New York Parents for their generous present of a fabulous dinner to the Midshipmen. Due to the party, Cookie Cafe will not take place on the 11th and will return in January.
Holiday wishes to everyone and prayers for our cadets out to sea for their safe return.
