With several types of Irish soda bread in evidence at Land Hall Thursday, Cookie Cafe took on the "Wearing of the Green" to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, a very New York tradition given New York's cultural heritage. Thank you to the Florida Parents Association and our far-flung Cookie Angels for providing shamrock shaped cookies and green icing to celebrate a rite of spring at Kings Point. While the Academy is facing another cruel few inches of snow, the Florida parents sent the Franz Family to represent the Sunshine state at Cookie Cafe. We welcomed their help and enthusiasm and hope our wintery reception doesn't keep them from returning.

It is with heavy hearts that we had to say goodbye to long time volunteer Dawn Hofler, whose daughter decided that Kings Point was not for her. Dawn has been a faithful presence at Cookie Cafe and the Midshipmen have been the recipients of the wonderful apples she would bring back from a favorite orchard in the Adirondack Mountains, where the Hofler family spends weekends. Dawn's generosity, both with her time and thoughtfulness, will be sorely missed. We send our best wishes to Dawn and her family and hope that they stay in touch with their Cookie Cafe friends. We would also like to thank her younger daughter Sam, who frequently helped us unpack boxes in addition to taking pictures of the Midshipmen.

A new trimester welcomed approximately 400 Mids to Cookie Cafe yesterday. Our fruit selection is a big favorite with the students and we thank all donors that enable us to offer this great addition to the cookies. With spring almost here (maybe) our variety can increase. Today, for example, we finally brought back decent looking strawberries.

May the "Luck of the Irish" be bestowed on all our children, especially the 1st Classmen who have begun the arduous journey toward the licensing exam in June. Their teachers have successful achieved getting them all nervous, but if they follow their sage advice, triumph and the pot at the end of the rainbow is not far away.
