Waves of relief exploded over the Class of 2015, culminating 4 and maybe 5 years of arguably one of the hardest undergraduate programs in the country. How far these young people have traveled! After an extremely long wait while the Coast Guard made sure that their results were correct, Dr. Kumar came out of Whiley Hall to announce that the Class of '15 did very well and that the long journey was now over. If only that joy could be bottled!

Cookie Cafe's last day coincided with the last day of the license exams and Bell Ringing. The Seniors shuffled into Melville Hall where CC decamped since KP was using Land Hall for a lunch for the 1st Classmen. Some of them arrived for cookies and coffee, admitting that at this point they hardly knew their own names due to exhaustion and stress. They all looked very pale from having not seen much of the sun for the last three weeks. "Thank goodness" for Cookie Cafe they told us - it helped keep them distracted while they awaited the license results. Could this ordeal be nearing the end?

For most of the Class of 2015, the results were exhilarating, but there are a few Midshipmen who have to retake parts of the exam next week. We need to support those still waiting for yesterday's joy and keep those students and their families in our prayers. It is so difficult for them to again crack open their books while their classmates are justifiably celebrating their hard fought victory. But these Mids will make it! They have come so far. We emptied our freezers and left what was left at the end of the day in the refrigerators in Land Hall where the students can access the extra milk and cookies. At Mrs. Helis' suggestion, we also set aside a large quantity of cookies to be taken by approximately 40 students on the Kings Pointer as it leaves to visit many of the other maritime state academies in the next several weeks. Cookie Cafe on the high seas!

We at Cookie Cafe want to thank all the parents, grandmothers, aunts, and alumni who supported Cookie Cafe during the year by baking or donating. Those donations go 100% to the Mids. We were able to provide a sweet relief to the Midshipmen along with a great selection of fruit that they might not see in the mess hall. To our incoming Class of 2019 parents, please consider helping the Midshipmen by participating in your local parents associations who help us. Also, you can, at any time, send your wonderful baked creations directly to us (contact Leslie@kpcookiecafe.com). Don't hesitate to visit Cookie Cafe - we love our out-of-town volunteers.

See you in September and welcome to the Class of 2019.
